This is intended as informational purposes only, learned in a complete CPR course instructed by the American Heart Association. It is to be used only as a guide for CPR.
For the ADULT VICTIM (anyone over age 8)
2. Determine if they are conscious by tapping and shouting "Are you OK?"
3. If no response call
4. Open the airway with a head-tilt chin-lift or jaw-thrust maneuver.
5. LOOK-LISTEN-&-FEELING for breaths. For about 5-10 seconds.
6. If not breathing normally cover the mouth with yours and blow until you see the chest rise. Give 2breaths.
7. Check for SIGNS of CIRCULATION
8. If NO SIGNS of CIRCULATION begin chest compressions. Place hand in center of chest. Push down on the chest 15 times right between the nipples. Pump at the rate of 100x/minute, that is faster than once per second.
9. CONTINUE WITH 2 BREATHS AND 15 PUMPS UNTIL HELP ARRIVES.
When to Stop CPR
if another trained person takes over CPR for you
if more advanced medical personnel take over
if you are exhausted and unable to continue
if the scene becomes unsafe
if the victim's heart starts beating
